Getting to know

Miss W

Amanda Jade Crumbley

What are your hobbies?
I spend a lot of my time with my boyfriend, family, and friends. I am involved in the Lockheart Social Club and serve as president. Through my social club we do a lot of community service with children. I like to ride horses with my family when we have free time. I absolutely love water sports, of all kinds!!! They give you a FULL body work-out.

What makes you special and unique?
I can definitely have fun no matter what it is, for example, riding 4-wheelers and hunting with my boyfriend to going on a shopping spree with my mom and sisters. I absolutely love spending time with kids by playing games or just watching a movie with them, either way it means a lot to them. When I am at home I like to cook for my family by experimenting with herbs, spices, or marinades.

What is the best advice you have ever received?
This was actually from one of my pageant directors, "Stress is not what you deal with everyday, it's your lack of time management; Stress is what the soldiers over seas are going through everyday not knowing if they will live or die that day." That quote made me take a whole new view on each day.

Name one thing you cannot live without.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream!!! It is the best with the huge cookie dough chucks from The Marble Slab!! My boyfriend and I have actually eaten an entire gallon by ourselves.

What is the most valuable lesson you ever learned?
Patience is a virtue, which is something I still need to work on.

Who is your most valued role model and why?
My mother is definitely a huge part of my life as well as my role model. She has always pushed me to do my best at everything I do, even if it wasn’t the best. She is my biggest fan and my Best friend; and I can always count on my mom to be there for me!

What was your most unexpected moment?
Most unexpected moment was when I was announced as Miss "W" 2008. It was shocking for both my family and I.

What is your workout routine?
My exercising routine consists of a lot of stretching to make myself more flexible, along with a full-body workout with weights. I, also, love to run and walk during my free time to clear my head.

What has been your biggest accomplishment to date?
My accomplishment would be having two very important responsibilities all in the same year. I was elected and voted as Lockheart President, as well as, crowned Miss W.

What is the best compliment you have ever received?
Someone told me they could not pay attention to my speech because they were drawn to my eyes. That made me feel good just for the simple fact of them telling me I had pretty eyes.

What is your secret wish?
I wish that I could take an entire year off from school, so that I could travel to different countries to admire their diverse types of architectural culture.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
I was in my dormitory and was late to class, but had to get my books out of my room. While I was running up the stairs I tripped and fell on my hands and knees, literally, while people were passing me going down the stairs to class. Instead of waiting for someone to ask me if I was ok I just jumped up and took off again.

What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
A huge glass of milk with cookie dough. I could eat a entire roll!!!

What is your favorite movie and why?
Well… I absolutely love animated movies, so my favorite would have to be “Meet the Robinsons.” This movie goes where you wish your imagination could. It has a lot of humor as well as keeping your attention by its intrigue.

What is your favorite color and why?
My favorite color is green, because it is very calming and relaxing. Green has also been known to represent good luck, health, and tranquility.

What do you like to do for fun... relaxation... recreation?
When I need to relax I either go walking outside or shop; just being outside can relax me. During the summer I am either babysitting my niece and nephew or going to the river with my boyfriend’s family to ski, wakeboard, kneeboard, etc.

What would be your dream vacation or destination?
My dream vacation would be going to Venice, Italy to tour the city by gondola. Venice has always intrigued me by the way the city was built on water. The time I would like to visit would be during February, when the Carnival of Venice takes place for ten days. During these ten days you are allowed to wear a costume and mask everywhere, except in a church.

What do you like best about your hometown?
I like smallness and closeness of my community. If I ever need help or want to visit a friend they are only at most ten minutes away.

What do you like best about the state of Mississippi, besides our food & hospitality?
Mississippi takes notice to its major issues, for example, rising obesity rates and creates organizations to help our community. Mississippi has created the Let's go walking Mississippi program for communities and schools to help get people involved in exercising in the hopes of decreasing the dramatic rise of obesity rates.

What's in your CD player or on your iPod right now?
Grace Kelly by Mika. It varies from day to day.

Where do you see yourself in ten years?
In ten years (since I plan out every minute of my life), I hope to be a nurse practitioner in a children’s hospital, while being happily married to my high school sweetheart. Maybe by then we would have one… maybe two kids, only God knows.

Who am I?
Well where do I start?! I definitely know when to be serious or when to just laugh at myself. I have a great group of family and friends that surround me and fulfill my life. My family is outspoken…my little sister will tell me when I look stupid and “…you do not need to leave the house looking like that.” She has to approve my hair, make up, and wardrobe before I go anywhere. I usually wear t-shirt, jeans, and tennis shoes, while she is miss fashion queen. I am the one out of my family that is quite and sits back to take in everything that is happening around me. I have been told that I am a very determined person, but you have to be to achieve your goals.

On the other hand, everyday something humorous happens that one of my friends or I have done that makes us laugh the next day during class. My roommate and I get on sugar highs just so we can stay up late to study, which turns into making fun of simple words, such as, FORK. When my friends and I get stressed we pile up in someone’s room and watch hilarious youtube videos until 1 a.m. As for college traditions, you should try fountain hopping!

Tell us about your occupational experience.
I have worked at Jumpers Inflatables during the summer I was about to start my freshman year of college. Jumpers was in a building where birthday parties inside and outside were held. I had to keep up with thee different parties that were being held each day, as well as, work the cash register. With this job I had to have patience when the kids were not being controlled by their parents and responsibility of being over the money while the owners were no there.

Tell us about your platform.
I have always tried to exercise as much as I could, even if it was only walking to all my classes. Physical Fitness is very important to maintain a long healthy life. People think to be healthy you have to be on a strict diet… not true. Regular physical activity and eating the right foods with proper servings is what makes someone healthy. Being healthy can make a drastic improvement in emotional well-being of people.

With the rising obesity rates in Mississippi our community has introduced the “Lets go walking Mississippi.” This organization is a great way to get kids and adults involved with their own physical fitness. When you sign up with “Lets go walking Mississippi” you have a certain number of miles you walk a week. Join with a friend so you can push each other to become physically fit. Everyone should get involved and see how their lifestyle changes by just becoming healthy.
